This national demonstration project is part of a three-state collaborative (CA, FL, HI) to increase the number of youth, adults and veterans with disabilities in community service opportunities that address local community needs. Three local service inclusion alliances were to be created in Florida (in Miami, Broward and the Pensacola area): 1) as focal points to outreach to individuals with disabilities, disability agencies and community organizations seeking volunteers; 2) to identify and resolve barriers to accessibility; and 3) for TA & education on effective inclusion practices for recruitment, placement & retention of volunteers with disabilities. The MCCD UCEDD will increase community inclusion via matchmaking between disability agencies and community organizations and training at 3 LINCS meetings/yr. in each area. It is anticipated by the end of the demonstration in Florida that 785 persons with disabilities will have volunteered and that 45 community programs will have improved their accessibility.
